The federal government, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, has authorized millions of dollars to fund unprecedented labor subsidies for employers in the Fresno County region, with the aim of revitalizing local companies and mobilizing the workforce. Employers that meet certain criteria are eligible to be reimbursed 100% of the wages paid to qualified hires filling full-time, vacant positions. To qualify, employers must provide a 'match' in training and supervision expenses equal to 25% of wages paid to qualified hires. Qualified hires include thousands of job-ready employment candidates who may have been affected by the current economic climate and are either receiving aid through the Fresno County Department of Social Services' CalWORKs or Food Stamp program.
